This UIS interface schema is related to using staff mobility between universities, RTOs and industry. Staff mobility can become a strong enabling tool for open Innovation/open science, by intensifying (tacit) knowledge transfer and improving skills development. Such staff mobility can be funded privately, or supported by public funds like the European Commission’s “Marie Curie” programme.
Benefits from such staff mobility programmes for the entities involved include the intensification of knowledge transfer, which maximises cross-pollination between sectors and out of the box thinking.
To set up and operate such staff mobility programmes effectively, challenges can arise in incentivising the staff to become “mobile” for a period of time, or in opening up relevant company policies, or creating public policies including funding which can support them.
